Towards a More Sustainable and Transparent Future

3rd Edition · Hawkama International · Strategic partner: QNB · Ritz-Carlton Doha

WHY ESG · NOW

The third edition convenes as QFMA disclosure requirements take effect for all listed companies - in strategic partnership with QNB and in cooperation with ISEP (UK).

A FIRST FOR ESG QATAR

For the first time in the conference’s history, an ESG reporting platform launches alongside the edition.

ESG Metrix - the reporting platform built in Qatar, for Qatar

Developed by NextGen SustainTech and launched with Hawkama International: one bilingual workflow that collects the data once, maps it across nine reporting frameworks - Qatar’s own and the international standards investors expect - and generates a publication-ready sustainability report.

282

Disclosure questions, cross-mapped across every framework

9

Reporting frameworks in a single workflow

66

Quantitative KPIs computed automatically

13

Structured sections in the generated report

Answer once, report to nine frameworks

One answer on environmental risk satisfies the relevant IFRS S1 requirement, QCB Principle 12, ESRS, GRI, an SDG target and an NDS3 outcome at the same time.

Arabic as a reporting language

The platform runs end-to-end in Arabic and English. Narrative, KPI tables and charts are produced in either language - Arabic is not a translation layer added at the end.

Carbon accounting, Scope 1-3

A GHG Protocol-aligned calculator covering Scopes 1, 2 and 3, with both location-based and market-based Scope 2 methods, in quick-estimate and detailed modes.

Double materiality, scored

Each topic is scored on impact to people and planet against impact to business value, and every material topic is linked to the disclosures it drives.

Assurance readiness (ISSA 5000)

Evidence and ownership are tracked at the level of the individual disclosure against the IAASB’s sustainability assurance standard, building a defensible audit trail from day one.

NDS3 national targets tracker

Organizational performance is mapped against 31 targets across the seven outcome areas of Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy.

FRAMEWORKS IN ONE WORKFLOW

ESG Metrix is a product of NextGen SustainTech, launched with the conference organizer. The conference does not develop or sell it, and framework alignment describes the platform’s own mappings - not an endorsement by any regulator.

PRESENTATION

WELCOME / LEADERSHIP

Words from those convening the conference

01 / 03

Not merely a regulatory requirement, but a long-term investment in investor confidence.

Dr. Buthaina Hassan Al-Ansari

Conference Chair, Chairman of the Board, Hawkama International

Read the full letter

In light of the mandatory directives issued by the Qatar Financial Markets Authority regarding the preparation of disclosure reports on ESG practices and standards, our annual conference serves as a strategic platform for Qatari companies to advance transparency, governance, and sustainability.

Adherence to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards is not merely a regulatory requirement, but rather a long-term investment in investor confidence and sustainable economic growth, while also supporting the Qatar National Vision 2030.

I invite you all to actively participate in this conference, exchange expertise, and adopt best global practices that will contribute to strengthening the position of our companies in regional and international markets.

02 / 03

Those organisations new to this topic realise that this is a journey, and that everyone is moving along a similar path.

Dr. Martin Baxter

Deputy CEO, ISEP, Visiting Professor, Cranfield University

I am delighted to accept the formal invitation to be a keynote speaker at the third Annual Conference on ESG in Doha on October 6th. It is a great honour to be able to contribute to such a prestigious event.

I think the proposed structure of the conference will work well, and that the audience will benefit from hearing a range of insights from experts in Qatar and from outside the region. I also think Session 3, on how Qatari listed companies approach ESG, will be important. It will be good for people to hear what the practical challenges and opportunities are in the Qatar context, so that those organisations new to this topic realise that this is a journey, and that everyone is moving along a similar path.

On Day 2, I would be happy to outline the importance of developing skills and capacity to help drive change for a sustainable future, and to reinforce the need to engage in training and ongoing learning.

03 / 03

An event that comes at a particularly significant time for Qatari listed companies.

Mr. Babiker Othman

Managing Director, Hawkama International

On behalf of Hawkama International, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the third edition of our Annual Conference on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), an event that comes at a particularly significant time, as Qatari listed companies are now preparing to disclose their ESG practices in compliance with recently issued official directives.

Our conferences have gained remarkable momentum over the past few years, reflecting the growing commitment to sustainability and governance across the region. This year’s conference is being held in collaboration with the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals in the United Kingdom, and will feature the participation of leading financial institutions and prominent Qatari companies.

We look forward to welcoming you all at the Ritz-Carlton Doha on October 6 and 7, as we continue together on our shared journey toward a more sustainable future.
